Cycling
One of the best ways to appreciate the fabulous landscapes of Northumberland is on two wheels – the kind you pedal yourself! Cycling along country lanes, taking in woodlands, heather-clad moors and fields of sheep and cattle, you’re reminded everywhere of the rich heritage Northumberland has to offer.
With a wealth of places to visit, not to mention picturesque villages and great pubs and cafés, there’s always an excuse to get off the bike and take a break from the saddle. Be sure to visit our two Northumberland cycle hubs in Haltwhistle and Wooler, each with 7 routes for you to explore.
Fishing
Pack up your rod and bait and visit Northumberland's streams, rivers and coasts where you will find a wealth of fishing opportunities.
Our county overflows with sparkling freshwater lakes and scenic valley streams and rivers where salmon and sea trout return every year to spawn.
Golf
Northumberland is home to a vast range great golf courses, located in some of the most stunning and dramatic landscapes in Britain. We believe we have a course to suit every level of golfer from beginner to expert.
Our coastal courses are a delight, true links challenges like Goswick, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, nestling just yards from our stunning beaches.
Both the European and Senior golf tours hold regular events in Northumberland and if you head inland you'll find championship courses like Slaley Hall and Burgham Park - home of the PGA North Region Championship - as well as a host of challenging nine hole courses that dot the county.
Horse Riding
Northumberland provides excellent horse riding for all abilities with miles of quiet country lanes, bridleways and open countryside.
Our beaches make for particularly spectacular riding experiences, you can gallop across miles of deserted sand and take in some our fantastic coastal views and castles.
Heading inland, take an exhilarating upland hack in the stunning Northumberland National Park or the wild expanse of the North Pennines.
Watersports
Northumberland is the place to come to if you like your watersports wet and wild.
It is great canoeing and kayaking territory and our long stretches of sandy beaches make us a popular destination for kitesurfing and adventure sports enthusiasts.
Alternatively, head out to the Farne Islands and dive in the company of grey seals.
Go inland and experience Kielder Water and Forest Park, which is Northern Europe's largest man-made lake, offering fantastic sailing and even waterskiing.
